Brennans Caddy Report-Korea Open

Thu, 26 Feb 2009 22:16:00

It was good to see a winner at the Presidents Cup this year, but unfortunately the wrong team won.  It was a great event and one that was very exciting and fun to be part of.  The team concept doesn't happen much in golf and when it does it makes for some good bonding with all the players and caddies.

Sunday night after the event finished there was a party at the International team house.  The players and families just relaxed and enjoyed themselves.  The party was taken back to the host hotel where there was a large room for everyone to get a bite to eat and mingle

Mike and the family and myself left at 10 pm that night from Washington in order to get back to Salt Lake for a few hours sleep-only to get up early and head to Korea early Monday.  Needless to say Monday was a long travel day as we left LA Monday at noon and arrived in Seoul on Tuesday evening.

Wednesday we played in a Pro-Am for the Korea Open, which is the reason we are in Seoul this week.  It is the biggest event on the Korea tour which is comprised of 14 events this year.  A few years ago the Asian tour and Korea Golf association parted ways so the tour is now on their own and is doing quite well.

The last time I was in Seoul was in 1995 while here for an Asian Tour event.  I am really impressed with the city, as it has changed quite a bit over the last 10 years.  It is much nicer and seems to be a lot cleaner.  Mike also played over here in 1994/95 while on the Canadian Tour-we would both try to get an event or two in on the Asian/Australian Tour after the Canadian Tour finished, and it is always fun to come back to places we've played before.  Mike was greeted in Seoul by a lefty golfer fan club!  I thought that was interesting to see-I can't say I have seen too many left handed fan clubs before!

The host course this week is the Woojeong Golf Course.  Located about an hour and a half outside of Seoul, the course is a long way to travel by PGA Tour standards.  The main problem with the trip is you never know if you are going to be stuck in traffic or not so you have to plan at least 2 hours for the trip.  The golf course though is in great condition and the pin locations are very challenging this week.  Mike has been close to the top of the leaderboard so far and hopefully we will come home with a win this week.
