Brennans Caddy Report-Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

After a couple of months at home with the family it is time to get
the 2007 year off and rolling. The first few days are tough to get
back in the flow but now it is time to get the year off to a good
start. The event this week is the Bob Hope Desert Classic,
which is played in Palm Desert, California.

I spent three winters here in the late 90's when I was playing the Canadian Tour so I love coming back to this part of the country. This desert area normally has some great weather but unfortunately, like the rest of the country, this week it has been very cold!Temperatures have gotten into the mid 50's and the lows at night in the 20's! They are very close to or are setting some record low temps this week. The one problem this may cause is the delays each day with frost on the golf courses. There is very limited daylight here at this time of the year so with any lengthy delay it may cause a logistics nightmare. With four courses and groups rotating each day it may make for some difficult organization for the event.
The one difficulty for Mike and myself this week is getting the opportunity to get around and see the four different courses in two days. Fortunately, we have played the courses before but it is nice to have the opportunity to get to see the courses and hit some shots on the more difficult holes. On Monday, we played nine holes at the new course, which also happens to be the host golf course the Classic Club. Then we drove around a few holes at Bermuda Dunes. On Tuesday, we are going to play little over at PGA West and then head over to La Quinta country club for a few holes. The key is to get around the courses and hit some of the more difficult shots or the shots that Mike doesn't feel that comfortable with.
This event is much different from most events on the tour due to the amateur participation. Each of the first four days there are four amateurs paired with one PGA Tour player. On Sunday only the tour players play. The atmosphere is much looser than you will see in most events and it is in large part due to the celebrity participation. The celebs like to keep things loose and keep the crowd entertained, which just so happens to keep Mike a little looser than normal. From the caddy side, I really enjoy the week because we get to play with some different sports figures and actors, which is a little different from the rest of the year. This year we get to play with George Lopez and Taylor Hicks, last season winner of American Idol.
Thanks as always for your support!
Brennan
