Brennan's Blog - The Players Championship

The Players Championship is the best field in golf and is considered a major by almost all of the guys. I think the tournament starts with the $9.5 million purse which is the biggest on tour all year and for some reason the large purse has put a lot of pressure on the guys. There is also the 17th hole which is a rather simple hole that can play like one of the hardest holes in golf, usually a 9 iron or wedge for some of the longer players. Having the water staring at you can really create some golf shots that you will not see from tour players very often. There is the long walk from the 16th green to 17th that gives you that extra time to think about the shot. The course this year is once again in great shape, fast greens and not all that much rough, just enough to make you wonder how the ball is going to come out. It is not like the US Open rough where you are just chopping the ball back to the fairway. It is Bermuda grass where the ball tends to jump once in a while and that can really get you guessing.

The tradition continued this year with all of the caddies hitting a shot on 17. I happened to hit a pretty good shot that went over the pin and right into the water! Bad club by my caddy! I am not sure who won this year or how much money was in the pot, but there is always a lot of good chatter in the caddy room over how the guys hit their shots

One of the great things for me this week is that a few of the guys rent condos across the street from the course at the Sawgrass Country Club. Not only can we go play a few holes later on in the day, but there are ponds all over the place to fish. There is about fifteen caddies staying in our complex and everyone has been fishing. The people who live here must wonder what is going on and if there is a fishing derby or something!

I always look forward to this week as it starts a great stretch for me, as Mike is going to play both events in the Dallas area after this. That way I am home for three weeks and can get to work. It is not too often in this business that you get to work and sleep in your own bed!

It is also great to get to back to condo each night and watch some great playoff hockey! Seems like the guys are giving it just a bit extra and the excitement level is much greater!  I love playoff time and could watch two games a night if I could stay up!

I hope to have some good fishing photos to include in the next blog!!

As always, thanks for the support
