2006 Canadian Open - Round 2

The real cause for my trouble here was that I wasn't able to keep the ball in the fairway. With the rough the way it was here, long and wet, that's going to catch up to you. At a course like Hamilton, you can't get away with marginal shots. The set-up here was solid and you had to play well to make birdies.
This week was somewhat of a surprise to be honest. Although I scored well at the PGA Championship, my ball striking wasn't as sharp as I knew it could be. At the Bridgestone, it started to unravel even more. But I spent some time with my coach, Mike Wilson, last week and I thought I'd ironed out most of the problems. I was actually feeling good coming into the Open and my practice sessions this week were good. But that's golf, it's a slippery game and just when you think you have it figured out, it becomes a challenge once again.
I want to thank all the fans that came out this week. The support I had was amazing. People were great every step of the way. I hope now they'll continue to support the Canadian golfers who made the cut. I'm very impressed with the performance of the younger players, both amateur and professional. I think Canadian golf is getting better every year and every one of the Canadian golfers who teed it up should be proud of playing in our national championship. I know whoever wins come Sunday afternoon, whether it be a Canadian or another of the fine players from some other part of the world, will be a worthy champion.
As always, thanks for your support.
Mike
