Mike's Blog Final Round PGA Championship

The major championship season didn't finish the way I'd hoped. I always want to add to my major victories, but this year and this week it wasn't to be.

On Sunday at Oakland Hills, I felt that I played pretty well, really as I had all week. I certainly didn't get a lot out of my play, but that can happen on a course as tough as this and in many majors. You can hit good shots and not always get rewarded.

And this was a very tough golf course all week. The rain that came in on Saturday really made an already long golf course play longer. With the added wind, it was really nasty. On the eighth hole, a par 4, I hit a driver and a three-wood and was short of the green so that gives you an indication of how that hole was playing, of how the course was playing.

When I got to the front side (my second nine) on Sunday, I felt I was really playing well. With a few putts, I could have made five or six birdies. That's what keeps you going on a Sunday when you can't get in the thick of things, something that will get you excited about the next week.

So I leave here feeling pretty good about the way I'm hitting the ball. I didn't have a very good putting week, I will admit that. The guys who finished at the top of the leaderboard all made a lot of those key putts, the par saves from 10 feet, the up and downs from beside the green, the scrambling shots. I wasn't able to do that.  I know that with some work the next week I can get that back on track. The new putter I put into my bag this week is one that I'll work with and see if it will turn things around.

As for the majors as a whole, I played decent in the four of them, but I didn't do what I wanted to do. But I'll regroup and get set for them for next year. First, of course, I have the FedEx Cup. I'll gear up for that last stretch and hopefully finish the season off on a high note.

I want to say a special thanks to all the folks who followed me this last week. There were a lot of people from my home town in Sarnia who made the trip and it was good to see a lot of old friends.

As always, thanks for your support.
