I also hit some nice iron shots out there, but it’s still playing tough and it’s difficult to pull the right club. Even though the wind has dropped every day since Friday when the big gusts came through, there’s still enough out there to keep you thinking.
It’s also really a long course with how wet things are and the wind. On seven, 14 and 17, I had four- and five-irons into those greens, which makes it tough to get it close.
I did have a nice birdie on the sixth hole, rolling in about a 30-footer with lots of break. It seemed almost comical really – I had short birdie putts on one and two that didn’t drop, then I get this long one to go in.
But that’s sort of the story of my week. I played well enough to be up there but I just couldn’t get the putts to drop. I had them all over the edge of the cup all day but they just wouldn’t go in for me. That’s the difference between a good result and what I had.
After this week, I’ll go home and go over my game and see what I think I need to work on, but overall, I leave here pretty pleased with how I’m playing. There’s just some fine tuning that needs to be done before my next stop in New Orleans.
Although I would have liked a better result, this was a good week. The Masters is always a good week. It was special to see Gary Player play his last round here as well as Fuzzy, of course. To think that Player has been around here for 52 years is remarkable. I’m lucky enough to know that I can keep coming back here for as long as I can remain competitive and that’s a special feeling. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to 52 Masters, but I think I’ll keep coming back here for a while.
As always, thanks for your support.
Mike
