Mike's Blog - U.S. Open Round 4

The U.S. Open finally wrapped up yesterday after a long week. I went into the last part of the last round (it's almost hard to remember what day or round it was!) feeling good about my chances to get in the hunt. I knew that if I could make a few birdies I'd be able to stay close if the leaders came back.
The course played very tough with the tees on the long holes set way back and many into the wind. It was a real brute out there and it was still quite wet.
I didn't make things any easier on myself with my driving. Once again, I had a tough time getting the ball in the fairway and you just can't make up any ground playing this course from the rough-it's so penal.
Still, I felt that I was in it and when I holed out from the bunker on seven I think I got to within two of the lead. But that was the only birdie I made all day.
At the end of the week, I can take some satisfaction from that opening-round 64 and that parts of my game felt really good. But the story was the driver -- I had a poor week with that club and I'll be working hard to sharpen it up before my next start.
Congratulations to Lucas Glover for a fine victory. He's an outstanding player and obviously had a great week.
I also want to congratulate Nick Taylor for a great performance and finishing as the low amateur. That's a great achievement for a young player and I look forward to following Nick's career.
Next up is the Telus Skins Game in Quebec City. I'm looking forward to having some fun on the course and seeing some of my Canadian fans. This is always one of the highlights of the summer for Canadian golf. I'm just hoping it won't rain!
We have a great field with Fred Couples, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Geoff Ogilvy. It should be a great day.
As always, thanks for your support.
Mike
