Mike's Blog - RBC Canadian Open Day 4

We finally wrapped up the RBC Canadian Open on Monday and after all the rain and the delays, it was nice to have a day where we could just go out and play. Today I thought I hit the ball quite well. I don't think I've ever seen so many lip-outs in one round, though. I think I burned the lip on at least half a dozen holes. It just felt as if I played well tee to green but I couldn't get the ball into the hole. Some days are like that and when you play enough golf, you learn to accept those and just hope that the next round will turn around for you.
Overall, this was a long, tough week on the course. I found it really difficult to get into any kind of rhythm or flow with all the stops and delays we had. Starting today, I thought if I could get out there and make some early birdies, I might be able to get on a roll. There were low rounds out there, but it wasn't meant to be today - the holes were just a tiny bit too small.
I'm also amazed at the great job Scott Bowman and his entire team did to get this golf course into playable condition. The weather we had last year was so tough on his crew and they did a fabulous job. I thought nothing could top it, but this year did and the team rallied again to give us a course that was exceptional. I can't thank them enough for everything and the two years of good work.
Off the course, this was a long week too. I was really excited and honoured to play a part with the first Mike Weir Charity Classic on Monday (that would be the first Monday!) We raised a lot of money for families in need and, I hope, added some excitement to tournament week.
When the tournament started, or started and then stopped, the staff inside the clubhouse did an amazing job at feeding us during those delays. I think I ate the buffet about six times! The service was great and these folks went above and beyond to help us sit out the long waits.
This year also showed me that we have a lot of great Canadian golfers on the rise. I was excited for Chris Baryla and Graham DeLaet making the cut and playing on the weekend. Both are wonderful and impressive players and I know we'll be seeing a lot more of them. All of the others who played helped make this week special. I'm excited to think of the possibilities for the future and that Stephen and I will have a lot company out here on the PGA Tour very soon.
As I leave Glen Abbey, I really feel that my game is very close to firing on all cylinders. I think the parts are all there and each tournament I'm getting better and better. I know that one of these weeks it will all come together for me and those lip-outs will become lip-ins. That's golf, though. No matter whether we're out on the PGA Tour or playing our next Saturday morning game, we're all working to make that next round the best one.
I also want to give a special thank you to RBC for all they've done to make this one of the best stops on the PGA Tour again. The RCGA is also working hard alongside to ensure our Open gets back to where it deserves to be. Finally, I can't thank the fans enough. Sometimes when I'm out on the PGA Tour, a long way from home, I think about the great ovations I get on every tee, every green, and every step of the way at the RBC Canadian Open. It gives me a little bit of energy knowing just how many great fans I have back home. I'm already looking forward to St. George's in 2010.
As always, thanks for your support.
Mike
