U.S. Open Round 2

Sat, 19 Jun 2010 07:25:25

Today was a difficult day for me at the U.S. Open. The course played tough and I made it tougher, for sure.

Certainly after coming out in the first round and playing well, I was hoping for more on Friday, but it was a tough day to score and I had trouble on the greens with all the poa annua. It's amazing how different the greens can be from the morning to the afternoon. The poa blooms later in the day and makes the greens bumpy and there's just no such thing as an easy putt. Even the short ones are tough because they just bump all over the place. I know people at home will look and see a two or three footer and think it's an easy one, but not out here, not at a U.S. Open.

I also got fooled a couple of times with the greens on my approach shots. I was expecting them to be hard and to release up to the hole, but instead they stopped dead. That happened at two and three today and added to the frustration.

That was sort of the story of the day, a frustrating day that you just have to try and accept because this is sort of what happens in a U.S. Open.

So tomorrow I plan to go out and just try and post a good score. Phil showed the field that there are low rounds out there and if I can go and get some putts to drop then maybe I can post a good number.

You have to stay positive and look ahead, not behind. I know that I'm getting better every day at what I'm trying to do and I'll stick with it but there will likely be some ups and downs in the process.
