RBC Canadian Open Round 1

Fri, 23 Jul 2010 07:40:21

Today wasn't a great day for me on the course. Nothing went very well with my game, unfortunately. St. George's is playing very tough this week if you don't hit it in the fairway, it can be very unpredictable coming out. It's especially tough around the greens where you're never quite sure how the ball will react.

I think if you can keep it in the fairway then you can score and the guys up near the top of the leaderboard have obviously been doing that.

If there was a good part of my day, it was on nine where I chipped in for eagle. When I followed that up with a couple of birdies, it felt like I got some momentum and then I got a bad break on 12 when the wind came up and my shot that was right over the flag went long. It ended up in a bad lie and I made bogey and lost the momentum.

I know some people may think this round was due to my sore arm but I'm not going to use that as an excuse. In fact, my arm felt a lot better today - the trainers really did some good work on it last night.

I want to say how great the fans were out there today. I felt tremendous support every step of the way. Canadian golf fans are some of the best anywhere and they showed that today, not only for me but also my playing partners Sean O'Hair and
Fred Couples.

At the end of the day, all I can do is put a round like this behind me and look ahead to tomorrow.

As always, thanks for your support.
