He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and turned pro in 1990. Most of his career has been spent on the BUY.COM Tour (1992-97) where he earned a solid reputation, winning at least one tournament four years in a row. In 1998 Hnatiuk qualified for the PGA Tour and has been there for three of the past four years. In 2001, Hnatiuk placed in the top-10 at the B.C. Open and the International, earning $434, 524; good for 122nd on the PGA money list and earned him an exemption for 2002 PGA Tour season.
