"Stephen is the first touring professional to emerge from Trinidad and Tobago. A graduate of Boca Raton College in Florida, he turned professional in 1987. He was the winner of the 1989 Trinidad & Tobago Open and joined the Nike tour (formerly Hogan Tour) in 1990. In only his first year on the PGA Tour, he already has a 3rd place finish at the 1998 Nissan Los Angeles Open. In 1998 he was nominated for PGA TOUR "Rookie of the Year"" and finished third in voting. In 2001, Ames finished in the top 70 on the PGA Tour money list and has retained his playing PGA player's card.

Stephen lives in Calgary Alberta with his wife Jodi and two son's Justin (2/28/97) and Ryan (05/26/99). He is a permanent Canadian resident and has applied to become a citizen.
