Albertas Brett Bingham Advances to Final Stage of Asian Tour Q-School

"MALACCA, MALAYSIA-- Brett Bingham of Red Deer, AB took one giant step towards securing a card for the 2002 Asian Tour season as the opening stage of Q-School wrapped up in Malaysia.

The 25-year-old Bingham, who resides in Burbank, CA, closed out the 72-hole opening stage with a 70 at A'Famosa Golf and Country Club, winding up at 282 through four days, good enough for fourth spot, five shots behind American Jim Johnson. Bingham now advances to the final stage of Qualifying,where 40 cards for the Asian Tour will be up for grabs when play begins January 16 at Orna Golf and Country Club, also located in Malacca, Malaysia.

Bingham, who won the Canadian Tour's Gordon Brydson Trophy as the Most Improved Canadian back in 2000, made eight of eleven cuts this past season and finished 55th on the Tour's Order of Merit. The former Canadian Amateur Runner-Up joined the Canadian Tour in 1998 and wound up fourth at the 2000.

Other Canadians who have left their mark on the Asian Tour include current Canadian Tour members Jim Rutledge and Rick Gibson. Rutledge, who has six official Canadian Tour titles on his resume, was 67th on the Asian Tour Order of Merit this past year.
