Canadian Tours Panama Open Third Round Highlights

"Mario Tiziani widened his lead atop the leaderboard Saturday after the third round of the Canadian Tour's $337,500 season-opening Panasonic Panama Open.

The 31-year-old Tiziani, who carried a one-shot cushion into Saturday, followed back-to-back 67's with a third round 4-under 68 to sit at 14-under 202 through 54 holes, two shots better than Chad Wright (Ventura, CA) heading into Sunday. Wright, who won the Tour's 2000 Canadian PGA Championship, carded a course-record 10-under 62 in the final round at this event a year ago to wind up third.

Americans David Ladd, Patrick Moore and David Kirkpatrick are five shots back. Darren Griff of Salt Spring Island, BC is the top Canadian, tied for 16th at 5-under.

The Canadian Tour's first tournament of the season is a co-sanctioned event that features the top 40 players from the 2001 Order of Merit, 40 other professionals from around the world as well as four amateurs.

Since the tournament is a co-sanctioned event, prize money will not be included in the 2002 Canadian Tour Order of Merit standings. The winner will take home $60,000 Cdn ($40,000 US).
