Curtain takes the lead in the Third Round of Q School

KAMLOOPS, BC__Michael Curtain of Australia fired a 3-under 69 Wednesday to lead after the third round of the Canadian Tour's Spring Qualifying School. The 23-year-old sits at under 6-under 210 with 36 holes to play, one shot in front of Californian Bryan Omelia. Robert Hamilton of Carmichael, CA is three shots back. Chad Belbin (Kamloops, BC) and Kyle Stinson (Edmonton, AB) are the top Canadians at 3-over 219.

Curtain, a member of the Asia's Davidoff Tour, dropped an eagle putt from off the green on the par-5 11th Wednesday to move him into top spot. Despite lingering near the top of the leaderboard through the first two rounds, Curtain admitted to having problems with his swing all week. As Q-school passed the midway point Wednesday, he seems to have corrected those problems and is in putting himself in position to book a flight to Michigan for next week's Bay Mills Open.

"I hit the ball a little better today, and I was able to hole a few putts," said Curtain. "It feels like everything is finally starting to come together, and I hope I can keep it through Friday."

Teamed with Hamilton and Omelia Wednesday, Curtain said the trio elevated each other's play, and looked forward to hooking up with them again Thursday. "It definitely helps playing with guys like that, we seem to feed off one another. There were the holes we all struggled, but where were others where we picked each other up."

The field will be reduced to the low sixty scores plus ties after Thursday's fourth round. Those remaining will play Friday in the hopes of landing one of 15 exempt or 10 non-exempt cards to be awarded for the remainder of the 2002 Canadian Tour season.
