Defending Champion Reaches Quarterfinals at Ontario Match Play Championship

Pemberton, 21, defeated Steven Dubarry of Scarborough 3&2 in the third round and Brad Kerfoot of Woodbridge 4&3 in the second round of matches.
In the first of four quarterfinal matches to be played tomorrow morning - Pemberton goes up against Tom Schupp of Oakville. The 21 year-old Schupp met Chris Jamieson of Prince Albert in the second round and their match extended to the 20th hole before Schupp emerged victorious. In third round play, the Trafalgar G&CC member made short work of Andrew Ross of Dundas, winning 7&6. Schupp, who is attending Charleston Southern University, won twice in NCAA play in 2001-02.
Tomorrow's other quarterfinal match will pit 18 year-old Nicholas Kenney of Toronto and 19 year-old Andrew Parr of London. Kenney advanced by disposing of Paul McLean 3&2 and then went on to better Dave Bunker 3&2 as well. Parr knocked off Andrew McCarthy 2&1 in their second round match and then defeated Dustin Wetherup 3&1 in the third round.
16 year-old Michael Moreland of Orangeville narrowly advanced from his second round match with Paul Morrow, winning 1up. He then engaged in another marathon match and escaped by defeating Ryan Lamb on the 21st hole. Moreland faces 19 year-old Charlie Woo of Markham in tomorrow's third quarterfinal match. Woo defeated veteran Jim McNeil on the 19th hole and then upset Adam Balls of Woodstock 2&1 in their third round match.
Waterloo native and son of Canadian golf legend Gary Cowan, 37 year-old Rob advanced to the quarters by defeating Dave Wodar 3&2 in round two and then outlasting Craig Hicks of Tecumseh 2&1 in the third round. Cowan faces Bradley Moulton of Orangeville tomorrow. Moulton, 18, won his second round match with Cameron Lowdon 2up and then outduelled Tyler McDannold of Ancaster on the final hole of their third round tilt.
