Top Seeds Advance at Ontario Match Play Championship

Terry O'Brien of Barrie needed an extra hole to defeat Jim Currie of London in their opening round match. O'Brien lost to Pemberton in the 2001 final contested on the same Rocky Crest layout. ClubLink Corporation is the Presenting Sponsor of the tournament and also hosted each of the qualifying events leading up to the championship.
The tournament's third seed - Rob Cowan of Waterloo outlasted Mike Schramm to win 4&3. Cowan is the son of Ontario and Canadian Golf Hall of Famer - Gary Cowan.
Dave Bunker of Toronto, seeded 61st, upset the tournament's fourth seed - Warren Pearce, also of Toronto. Bunker needed two extra holes to emerge victorious in their afternoon match.
Chris Holmes of Fort Erie was another victim of the upset - he fell 4&3 to the 60th seed - Dusin Wetherup of Oshawa.
Both the second and third rounds will be contested tomorrow. Quarter and Semi-final play will resume on Thursday and the 36-hole final will be played Friday.
