Tiziani Widens Lead at Canadian Tours Bay Mills Open

Holding a one-shot edge as play began, the 31-year-old fired a 1-under 71 at Wild Bluff Golf Club and sits at 8 under 208 through 54 holes, two strokes in front of Conrad Ray of Hilton Head, SC. Roger Harrison (Calgary, AB) is at 5-under 211, while Americans Dave Christensen, Jeff Quinney and Brian Unk are four shots back.
At one point, Tiziani managed to get to 10-under and had a chance to put some more distance between himself and Ray, but struggled to bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes en route to a 1-over 37 on the back nine.
"I'm happy that I have a two-shot lead and that I was rolling for a while, but I did give a couple back towards the end," said Tiziani. "But again, the two-shot lead is the main thing. Tomorrow is another day."
On Sunday, Tiziani will go in search of his first official Tour victory, less than five months after claiming the unofficial Panasonic Panama Open. Currently 18th on the Tour's Order or Merit, Tiziani knows a win here would vault him into the top five on the money list, putting him in prime position to gain an exemption into the Air Canada Championship and Bell Canadian Open. The top three money leaders, plus the next two Canadians, at season's end will earn a spot into Canada's two PGA Tour events, and the top two will be exempted into the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying later this fall.
"That's not something I am thinking about at this point," he admitted. "If I can continue to play well, that stuff will take care of itself. Of course it would be nice, but I've got to worry about Sunday. The toughest thing is not getting to far ahead of myself. It was taxing out there today, and tomorrow will be the same. I'm looking forward to it."
