Craig Revell Leads Ontario Junior and Juvenile Boys Am
Tue, 03 Mar 2009 01:40:39
An unspectacular front nine 35 by Revell was followed by a four-under 32 on the inward nine; the 17-year-old notched five birdies and a bogey on the back nine. Revell, who is a member of the Cataraqui G&CC is undoubtedly riding an emotional high after finishing tied for third at the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship in Unionville last week.
Trailing Revell by just one stroke are Richard Scott of nearby Kingsville, Ontario and Michael Hammond of London. Scott held the clubhouse lead for most of the day posting a four-under 68 this morning. The 18-year old, University of Georgia bound golfer made five birdies on the Sutton Creek back nine for a 31.
Hammond handled the scorching afternoon temperatures in fine fashion as well. The 17-year-old posted two bogeys and four birdies and added an eagle on the par five, 18th hole for good measure.
Two other golfers round out the top five after posting identical three-under 69's today. Ricky Allen of North Bay and Nathan Hendriks of Carlisle teed off this morning when the heat wasn't necessarily a factor.
Not suprisingly, of the top ten golfers, 16 in total, 11 had a morning tee off time. Tournament officials admitted that today's mercury-rising heat may have had an effect on the afternoon groupings.
The field of 156 competitors will resume play tomorrow at 7:30am; the low 75 players and ties following 36 holes of play will compete for an additional 36 holes of play on Thursday and Friday of this week.
The Sutton Creek Golf & Country Club is located in Essex, Ontario, 20 minutes south of Windsor. The course plays to a par 72 and stretches to nearly 6,600 yards.
