Dream Comes True for Canadian Golfer

"Burlington, ON - Winning your country`s national Open championship may seem like a fantasy to some, but one Canadian golfer is now one step closer to making this dream a reality. Gordon Burns of Ajax, ON has earned an exemption into one of Canada`s most prestigious professional golf events, the Bell Canadian Open.

Burns was one of 144 golfers who competed in the qualifier at Hidden Lake Golf and Country Club in Burlington, ON and will now compete with many of golf`s biggest stars when the Bell Canadian Open is played September 2-8, 2002 at Angus Glen Golf Club. Burns shot a 65 at the qualifying event to earn his spot in the Open.

While Burns earned an automatic exemption as the low qualifier, there is still hope for others in the field. Nineteen of the Hidden Lake contestants will now proceed to stage two qualifying, a Monday qualifying event to be held September 2 at Mandarin Golf Club, at which a minimum of four more championship spots are up for grabs.
