Hospodar and Woo Lead Ontario Mens Amateur

"Unionville, Ontario: Charlie Woo of Markham and Michael Hospodar of Brantford are waging a wonderful battle thus far at the Investors Group Ontario Men's Amateur Championship at the York Downs Golf & Country Club. Both Woo and Hospodar have posted identical rounds of 69-73--142 (-2).

Hospodar captured the 1998 Ontario Amateur title while Woo is searching for his first provincial championship. Earlier this year he captured the upstart Toronto Star Amateur Championship.

Sean Donnelly of Brampton had a share of the first round lead at 69; he posted a two-over 74 and sits one shot back of the leader heading into tomorrow's third round. Bill Seagris of Red Rock, Ontario and Kevin Blue of Don Mills round out the top five with two-day totals of 145. Blue posted the tournament's only other sub-70 score with a 69 today.

The field of 156 players was to the low 60 players and ties for the final two rounds of the championship. 63 players survived the cut of 155 (+11).

The defending champion - Jon Mills of Brooklin has turned professional and is thus inelligible for amateur competition.
