Scott, Revell Lead the Way at Ontario Junior-Juvenile Championships

"Essex, Ontario: Craig Revell of Kingston and Richard Scott of Kingsville live 620km from each other, but after two rounds of the Ontario Junior & Juvenile Golf Championships the two are deadlocked atop the leaderboard.

The duo share a three-shot lead heading into tomorrow's third round of the tournament Presented by The Toronto Sun and hosted by the Sutton Creek Golf & Country Club.

Scott, 18, carded a two-under 70 today to go with a four-under, opening round 68. The Kingsville G&CC is set to embark on a golf scholarship later this summer at NCAA powerhouse - University of Georgia.

Meanwhile, Revell, 17, followed yesterday's sizzling 67 with a two-under 71 this morning. Revell tied for third at the Ontario Amateur Championship last week and in doing so, will represent the province at the Canadian Inter-Provincial Championships in New Brunswick in August.

Three golfers share third spot at (-3), three back of the leaders. Nathan Hendriks of Carlisle, Ricky Allen of North Bay and Robbie Greenwell of Georgetown all have two round totals of 141. Allen and Greenwell have a share of the Juvenile Division (16 & under) lead.

Sutton Creek stretches to a modest 6,600 yards and plays to a par 72 for the championship. Competitors have been forced to endure temperatures exceeding 30 degrees celsius for the first two rounds of the tournament.

The field of 156 competitors was cut to the low 75 players and ties following today's second round. 80 players survived the cut, requiring a score of 155 or better to advance into the final rounds. Play resumes tomorrow at 7:30am and concludes Friday.

The competitor who returns the lowest gross score for 72 holes will be recognized as the Ontario Junior Champion. The competitor who returns the lowest gross score for 72 holes and is 16 years of age or younger will be recognized as the Ontario Juvenile Champion. A Juvenile golfer is eligible to claim both titles.

17-year-old Nicholas Wheeler of London matched the low round of the tournament today with a blistering five under 67. His 36-hole total of 143 puts him in 7th place; the Forest City National member jumped 41 spots in the standings.

The Golf Association of Ontario is the governing body for amateur golf in the province and mandates policies on behalf of over 500 member clubs and 100,000 individual members. The GAO conducts provincial championships, camps, clinics and various seminars throughout Ontario.
