Doug McGuigan Shares Lead at CanTours Quebec Open

The co-sanctioned event pits the top players from the Canadian and Quebec PGA Tours competing for $200,000, with $32,000 going to the winner.
Barber, the defending Order of Merit champion, got off to a quick start Thursday and was 5-under after six holes. With five top-ten finishes in his last five starts, Barber is focused on continuing the streak and improving on his seventh place Order of Merit standing.
"I didn't see enough of you guys early in the year, so hopefully we can have a chat Sunday," laughed Barber before a scrum of reporters in the media centre Thursday. "I seem to be playing with a lot of confidence lately, and that has put me back in contention. This is a big week and a lot of guys will be jockeying for position on the money list."
With just one event remaining on the schedule after this week, Barber knows how vital it will be for him to make a move here. A win would likely move him into the top three, putting him in position to gain exemption into the Air Canada Championship and Bell Canadian Open. The top two off the Order of Merit will also be exempted into the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying later this fall.
"I've been putting consistently, so when I have a good ball-striking round like today, I can take it low," added the 29-year-old. "But we have a tough field here, everyone is back for this event. I just need to keep things in focus and hopefully it all works out."
Just one day after celebrating his 32nd birthday, McGuigan had a strong start in Terrebone, shooting 33 33 to take a share of the lead. "I've been in this position a few times, and if you start planning victory parties, you'll get slapped in the face in a hurry," he said. "I'll wait until Sunday and see where I am. If there's one thing I'm learning as I get older, it is not to force things."
Parker, now into his 12th season on the Canadian Tour, has played with a heavy heart recently. Not only is he coming to grips with the death of his best friend's father, but on Tuesday night Herb Addison, a longtime supporter of the Tour who was a close friend of Parker's, passed away in Victoria, BC.
"I'm not sure if that is the reason, but I felt so relaxed out there (today)," admitted Parker. "I know it sounds clich�, but it times like this that you realize that golf is supposed to be just a game and we should have some fun with it."
