Quebecs Dave Levesque Takes Over Lead at CanTours Fall Q-School

"ASHBURN, ON-Dave Levesque of Quebec City shot an even-par 72 Wednesday to take over the lead after the third round of the Canadian Tour's Fall Qualifying School. Levesque sits at 6-under 210 through 54 holes, one shot in front of Adam Short of Vineland, ON, who shot a 4-under 68 Wednesday. Drew Symons (Woodstock, ON), the leader for the opening two rounds of the 90 hole tournament at Royal Ashburn GC, and Craig Matheson (Aurora, ON) are at 4-under 212.

Levesque played the 2001 season on the Canadian Tour, but could not retain his card and failed to earn back his playing privileges at Q-school a year ago. He toiled on the Quebec PGA in 2003 before coming back to Ashburn to make amends this week. "This is exactly where I want to be, which is a lot better than this time last year (at Q-school)," said Levesque. "I am playing a lot better than I was back then, and it seems to have helped me with my confidence."

The field will be reduced to the low 60 scores plus ties after play Thursday. Those remaining players will square off in Friday's final round, with 15 exempt and a minimum of 10 non-exempt cards for the 2003 Canadian Tour season to be awarded.

While it would seem that only a total collapse would prevent Levesque from regaining his card for next season, the 28-year-old doesn't want to back his way onto the Tour. Like Symons has stressed all week, Levesque isn't looking for just a top 15 finish. He wants to win the tournament, and that is where his focus has shifted with two days to go.

"I am not going to play conservative, I'll stick to my game plan and keep doing the little things right. Starting (Thursday), I'll play it like a two-day tournament. I'll be patient, play my game and try not to put up any big numbers. I'm here to win."
