The Canadian contingent of Lee Curry of Ottawa, Dan Swanson of Surrey, B.C., and James Lepp of Abbotsford, B.C. fired a team total 13-over-par 157 to sit 20 shots off the lead heading into second-round action.
Lepp, whose 78 was the best Canadian round on the day, found trouble on 15 where he made quadruple bogey to finish six-over. Swanson got off to a rough start shooting seven-over on the front but rallied for even par on the back nine to finish at 79. Curry struggled throughout his round and finished at 15-over.
""We need to regroup tonight and put this behind us,"" said Doug Roxburgh, RCGA Director of Player Development. ""Our guys are first off tomorrow so they will go out, shoot some respectable scores and get back in the game as best they can.""
The United States, led by 2002 US Amateur champion Ricky Barnes and 2002 US Amateur runner-up Hunter Mahan sit alone atop the leader after firing a team total seven-under-par 137.
