Canadian Tours Anderson, Grob and Barber Grab PGA Tour Cards In California

Tue, 03 Mar 2009 01:46:50

"LA QUINTA, CA--Chris Anderson, Aaron Barber and Mike Grob are the latest Canadian Tour players to gain membership onto the PGA Tour after Qualifying School wrapped up Monday.

Leading the charge was Anderson, who carded an even par 72 at PGA West for a six-round total of 15-under 417 and a share of second spot, one shot behind medallist Jeff Brehaut. Barber finished in eighth at 13-under, while Grob came in at 8-under, right on the number to snare a PGA card for 2003.

The PGA Tour awarded playing cards to the low 35 players plus ties after the final of six rounds Monday.

Anderson, a former NIKE Tour member, finished runner up at the 2000 CPGA Championship and the 1999 TELUS Calgary Open. This past season, he made five of eight cuts and was T10 at the Texas Classic.

Barber won his first two Tour events during the 2001 season en route to the Order of Merit crown and Most Improved International Player honours. In 2002, he made 13 of 15 cuts with a best showing of T2 at the MTS Classic.

Grob spent three seasons on the Buy.com Tour before returning to the Canadian Tour in 2002. He captured his third career Tour triumph last summer at the Ontario Open Heritage Classic in Huntsville, ON and eventually wound up fifth on the money list.

All other players will have some type of status on the Nationwide (formerly Buy.com) Tour next season. Kenneth Staton began the day in 110th spot but moved into a tie for 66th thanks to a 7-under 65, while Jim Rutledge of Victoria, BC closed out with a 5-under 67 to also finish in 66th, 31 spots higher from where he began the day.
