Golf Association of Ontario Announces Year-End Player Rankings

Terrill Samuel of Toronto turned in a brilliant 2002 campaign and wound up the top-ranked female amateur and mid-amateur player in the province. Samuel's year was highlighted by a second place finish at the Ontario Mid-Am, a seventh at the Ontario Amateur and a sixth place finish at the Canadian Mid-Am. The mid-amateur age for women in Ontario is 25 and older.
20-year-old Charlie Woo of Markham captured the Ontario Amateur at his home club of York Downs earlier this year and in the process went on to achieve the top-ranking position for male amateur golfers in Ontario. Woo is presently in his sophomore year at the University of Louisville.
Both Katie Williams and Craig Revell parlayed Ontario Junior Championship wins into top-ranking honours this year. Williams also captured the Junior Tournament of Champions in the spring while Revell placed sixth in the Junior Boys division. Revell and Williams also played brilliantly at their respective provincial amateur events - Revell placed third while Williams finished one-shot back of the winner, Laura Henderson-Matthews.
The top position amongst senior men's golfers in Ontario belongs to an American - Fred Silver of Lewiston, New York. The Whirlpool Golf Club (Niagara Falls, Ontario) member enjoyed an excellent 2002 season with top finishes at the Ontario Senior Amateur, Canadian Senior Amateur and Canadian Senior Match Play Championships.
Mary Lou Henderson of Kingsville played a lot of golf in 2002 and played really well in the process. The mother of Ontario Amateur Champion - Laura Henderson Matthews lost in a playoff in the Ontario Senior, finished fifth at the Canadian Senior, 18th at the Canadian Amateur and played wonderfully at the United States Senior in September. Mrs. Henderson is the top-ranked senior ladies golfer in Ontario for 2002.
Chris Markle of Cobourg captured the Ontario Men's Mid Amateur title in the spring and then garnered enough points in the Canadian Amateur to wind up the top-ranked 40 and over male in the province. The men's mid amateur age has been lowered to 35 beginning in 2003."
