"Mississauga, Ont. - Michael Mezei of Lethbridge, Alta. and Brodie Flanders of Fawcett Hills, N.B. capped off a successful season by finishing as the top ranked amateur golfers in Canada for 2002. Mezei captured the number-one spot on the national Order of Merit with 825 points, while Flanders landed the top spot on the BMO Financial Group Future Links Junior Order of Merit with 3160 points.

Mezei's accomplishments this year include placing third at the Glencoe Invitational and second in the Alberta Amateur. His season highlight was a runner-up finish at the Canadian Amateur, a feat which earned him a berth in Canada's most prestigious golf championship, the Bell Canadian Open.

Flanders had a strong season, finishing runner-up in four prestigious events - the Bank of Montreal Future Links Atlantic Championship, the N.B. Junior Championship, the Mackenzie East Coast Junior and the N.B. Amateur Championship, as well as a top-10 placing at the Canadian Junior Championship.

"Michael and Brodie are both tremendously gifted young golfers and we are proud to recognize their achievements," said Doug Roxburgh, RCGA Director of Player Development. "Their results this season are a testament to their natural ability, hard work and dedication to the game."
