OAKVILLE, Ont. - A minor rules drama on the 18th fairway couldn't keep fan favourite Mike Weir from catching Calgary's Stephen Ames to share top Canuck honours Saturday at the rain-racked RBC Canadian Open.
Weir, from Bright's Grove, Ont., made a birdie at the last to get to 7-under for the championship, six back of leader Jason Dufner at 13-under.
Weir's ball moved in the fairway just prior to his making a swing, but officials later determined that he didn't have to take a penalty stroke because he hadn't soled his club.
Graham Delaet of Weyburn, Sask., made four birdies and no bogeys en route to an impressive second-round 66, leaving him 5-under for the event. Chris Baryla of Vernon, B.C., made the cut at 4-under.
Ames only played three holes Saturday, all of them in even par, for a second-round 69 that kept him at 7-under for the championship.
A host of other Canadians missed the cut including Stuart Anderson of Victoria, Wes Heffernan of Calgary, Brian DeCorso of Guelph.
