There will be only one full time golfer on the PGA Tour next year from Brights Grove, Ontario after Matt Hill failed to advance past the first stage of Q-School on Saturday.
The collegiate standout who hails from the same home town as Masters Champion Mike Weir finished 30th after posting a round of even par 72. Only the top 23 and ties advanced to the next stage. Hill missed the cut by just three strokes - which amounted to the three bogeys he had in his round Saturday.
Hill joins Nick Taylor, another highly touted collegiate golfer from Canada, who failed to advance past the first stage in their first try at Q-School.
Peter Laws of Mississauga, Ontario was among four other Canadians who did advanced to the next stage following the completion of play on Saturday. His even par 72 left him 14th in the field in Florida.
Brennan Webb of Bracebridge, Ontario had his worst round of the week, a 2-over 74, in Pine Mountain, Georgia, however he still managed to finish in a tie for 20th which put him among the top 21 and ties who advanced to the next round.
Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ontario equalled his best round of the week with a 70 but did not advance after finishing tied for 31st. Back-to-back bogeys on No. 12 and 13 contributed to his downfall as he missed the cut by two strokes.
Mitch Gillis of Williams Lake, B.C. and Richard T. Lee of Vancouver managed to make it through their first stage qualifier in Beaumont, California after finishing tied for 3rd and tied for 6th, respectively. Four other Canadians, including Edmonton's Barrett Jarosch - a rookie on the Nationwide Tour this year - failed to advance.
Over in Auburn, Alabama, none of the three Canadians were among the top 23 and ties. Adam Short of Vineland, Ontario came within one stroke of advancing to the next stage.
A total of 14 Canadians will tee it up again next month at one of six locations in the hopes of advacing all the way through to the final qualifying phase.
