Benson misses out on PGA Q-School

Yohann Benson's Q-School aspirations came to an end Friday at the Redstone Golf Club at Humble,Texas following a disastrous final round.
The Montrealer, who started the day tied for 15th, struggled to a 3-over 75 which dropped him down into a tie for 30th. Only the top 19 and ties advanced to the final PGA Q-School qualifier next month in Florida.
Fellow Canadian Danny Sahl of Sherwood Park, Alta., also carded a 75 in Friday's final round to finish in a tie for 38th.
There are 16 other Canadians competing in five other Q-School qualifiers which will wrap up on Saturday.
At the Hombre Golf Club at Panama City, Fla., Ted Brown of Peterborough, Ont., came up with his best round of the week, a bogey-free 65 to move into a tie for 17th. The top 19 and ties will advance to the final stage from this event.
At the Bear Lake Golf Club in Murrieta, Calif., three Canadians are poised to advance to the final qualifying stage with one round to play. Richard Lee of Vancouver is tied for eighth after shooting a second straight round of 73. Right behind him, Matt McQuillan of Kingston, Ont., is tied for 10th after shooting 71 for the second straight day and David McKenzie of Victoria is tied for 11th after shooting 70.
Mitch Gillis of Williams Lake, B.C., is tied for 56th after a disappointing 77 while Calgary's Ryan Yip is in 69th place after carding a 76.
The top 20 and ties will advance to the final stage after Saturday's round.
At the Southern Hills Plantation Club at Brooksville, Fla., Bryan DeCorso of Guelph, Ont., had three birdies to go with three bogeys for an even par 72 to leave him tied for 24th. Matthew Richardson of Woodbridge, Ont., fired a second straight 70 to leave him tied for 29th while Cam Burke of New Hamburg, Ont., has some work to do after a round of 74 left him tied for 55th.
The top 19 and ties will advance to the final stage.
At the TPC Craig Ranch at McKinney, Texas, Calgary's James Love slipped to a 75 to fall into a tie for 41st. Peter Laws of Mississauga, Ont., came up with his best round of the week, shooting 69 to move into a tie for 47th.
The top 20 and ties will advance to the next stage.
At the Bayonet Course at Seaside, Calif., Chris Baryla of Vernon, B.C., vaulted himself into contention with a 6-under 66 thanks to seven birdies and a bogey. That moved him up into a tie for 21st and one shot out of making the cut line for the final stage.
Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., posted his second straight 73 to sit in a tie for 45th along with Brennan Webb of Bracebridge, Ont., who shot a 71. Winnipeg's Adam Speirs is tied for 67th after a round of 75 while Saskatoon's Kent Eger shot 79 and sits 70th out of 70 players.
