SCOREGolf has named Bright's Grove, Ontario's Mike Weir as Canada's all-time best golfer, ahead of runners-up George Knudson and Marlene Streit.
During a broadcast of SCOREGolf TV on Saturday on TSN, host Bob Weeks revealed the list of the 25 greatest golfers that Canada has produced.
The list included male and female players - both amateur and professional - regardless of generation.
"Canada has had so many outstanding golfers over the years and the task or comparing them all and putting an order to them was extremely difficult," said Weeks, who is editor of SCOREGolf Magazine and is also TSN's golf analyst. "I'm sure this is likely to start a lot of discussions in 19th holes across the country."
Weir, the 2003 Masters champion and eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, was selected ahead of Knudson, who also had eight career PGA Tour titles.
Meanwhile, Streit's achievements as amateur champion made her the top woman on the list, and she remains the only Canadian in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Sandra Post, also a major winner, and Al Balding rounded out the top five selections.
Current LPGA player Lorie Kane (9), and PGA Tour member Stephen Ames (11) were also part of the list.
The Top 25 was selected by a panel of golf insiders, historians, and journalists. The all-time best players will also be featured in a special newsstand edition of SCOREGolf Magazine.
