The Canadian team of Adam Hadwin and Roger Sloan came up just short in its bid to qualify for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup.
The Canadian Tour regulars from British Columbia placed fifth at a 14-nation regional qualifier in Caracas on Sunday.
Originally, the top three were to advance to the World Cup in China in November. But Hadwin noted on his Twitter account that Colombia has withdrawn from the World Cup, meaning four moved on from the qualifier at Caracas Country Club.
Brazil, Mexico, Guatamala and Argentina grabbed the berths.
"Apparently Colombia withdraws and 4 teams qualify," Hadwin tweeted. "We finish 5th. One shot back of 4th. Sickening feeling.
Hadwin and Sloan put themselves into contention for a berth on Saturday with a sizzling 11-under 60 in best ball on Saturday, but their solid 69 in alternate shot Sunday wasn't quite enough to catch fourth-place Argentina.
Brazil's Adilson da Silva and Lucas Lee claimed top spot with a final score of 31-under par. Six strokes back were the Mexican duo of Oscar Serna and Jose de Jesus Rodriguez, who claimed top money honours on the Canadian Tour this year.
Guatemala shot a final round 67 to move into third.
The World Cup was founded by Canadian industrialist John Jay Hopkins, beginning in 1953 as the Canada Cup. It's been called the World Cup since 1967. Canada has won three times, but none since 1985. The last time Canada played in the event was 2009 when the duo of Graham DeLaet and Stuart Anderson finished 25th.
