...Doctor expects full recovery after successful surgery to repair extensor tendon
Canadian PGA TOUR player Mike Weir underwent successful surgery on the extensor tendon of his right elbow yesterday and will be out of action for approximately three to six months as he works through the necessary rehabilitation and training schedule.
The surgery was performed by renowned sports orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, at his practice in Pensacola, Florida.
"My elbow has caused me problems over the past year and during the RBC Canadian Open it essentially became unplayable," said Weir. "Dr. Andrews is the best in the business, and it's my hope with patience, and diligent post-surgery rehab, I will be able to put my elbow problems behind me and look forward."
Weir, a native of Bright's Grove, Ontario, is widely considered Canada's greatest professional golfer. His eight PGA Tour victories, tying George Knudson for most ever by a Canadian, includes a historic Masters win in 2003 that fans across the country will always remember. He spent over 110 weeks in the Top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings between 2001 and 2005 and has been a five-time member of the Presidents Cup International Team.
