Adam Hadwin carded a second round 71 Friday at the McGladrey Classic, coming precariously close to missing the cut for the first time in a PGA event. But his two round total of 1-under was just enough to squeak into weekend play, extending his streak PGA Tour cuts to five this year and six dating back to last year.
The Abbotsford, B.C. golfer, who had two birdies and three bogeys, needs to earn another $130,000 to equal the total won by the player who finished 150th on the PGA Tour money list last year to earn special temporary membership. That would get him directly into the final stage of Q-school and earn him Nationwide Tour status for next year. In order to do that, he will likely need another top-10 finish, which would get him an invitation into next week's Fall Series finale at Disney, where he could potentially earn his way into full time Tour membership by finishing in the top 125 on the money list.
"A bit of a frustrating day on the links, a lot of quality shots/putts," he tweeted following his round. "But as @RickieFowlerPGA put it, cellophane was over the hole!"
David Hearn, who started the day two shots off the lead, had a roller-coaster round, eventually carding a 71 to leave him at 4-under par which should get him into the weekend. Starting on the back nine, the Brantford, Ont., golfer bogeyed his first two holes and three of his first five before an eagle three on the par-5 15th stopped the slide. Back to back birdies at the turn gave way to a double bogey six on No. 2 and a bogey on No. 3. Another bogey on his 15th hole of the day was followed by back-to-back birdies to close out the final three holes of the round.
"Glad that round is over!!" tweeted Hearn. "Better stuff on the weekend hopefully. #windmakesgolfhardsometimes."
Calgary's Stephen Ames is also at 4-under after shooting 70 and will make the cut for only the third time in his last five events.
