Chris Smith won his first PGA Tour title, shooting a 1-under-par 71 for a two-stroke victory at the Buick Classic. He had a 12-under 272 total, earned $630,000 and locked up a tour exemption through 2004. "The pins were so tough and the course was playing so difficult," said Smith, a five-time winner on the Buy.com Tour. "I was hitting it all over the place, but I knew if I could get it on the green I would be OK.''

David Gossett, Pat Perez and Loren Roberts tied for second.

Mike Weir fired a final round 68 to finish T-12, earning $66,500. This was Mike’s best finish since March where he finished T-11 at the Honda Classic. "I feel good about my game going into the U.S. Open." Mike stated. "This week was a good test as the course played tough and I can build on the positives that came out of this week." Mike drove the ball very well this week, hitting 82% of the fairways. This will be of utmost importance on the difficult Bethpage Black Course. Mike debuted a new driver at the Buick Classic -- the TaylorMade 540. It has 8.5 degrees loft and a Fujikara Speed 'X' flex shaft.

Ian Leggatt (71) of Cambridge, Ont., continued his fine season with a fifth-place finish and earned $133,000. Calgary resident Stephen Ames earned $94,500 after shooting a 71 to finish at 6-under-par 278. Glen Hnatiuk of Selkirk, Man., carded a 71 for a 284 total and earned $9,922 while Richard Zokol of Richmond, B.C., finished with a 285 and made $8,442 after a 72.
