Miami, Florida--Ernie Els held off Tiger Woods to win the Genuity Championship, the South African’s first PGA Tour victory since the 2000 International. Els, who began the final round with an eight-shot advantage over Woods and Peter Lonard, closed with a 271 total, two shots clear of Woods who shot 66. Having started with three straight birdies, Woods closed to within 1 shot early in the back nine as Els could not get his round going after two bogeys early in the front nine. Els however rose to the challenge as he rolled in a 12-foot putt for birdie on the par-5 12th to re-establish a 2 shot lead over Woods. Australian Peter Lonard finished in third spot on 10-under-par.

Mike Weir closed the tournament with a 2-under par 70, finishing T-16 with a 284 total. "I am hitting the ball better than my scores reflect, but that's the way it goes sometimes." Mike stated. "I will be working hard on all aspects of my game in preperation for this weeks Honda Classic."

Cambridge, Ontario's Ian Leggatt followed up his win last week with a strong finish in Miami, finishing tied with Mike at 284. Calgary resident Stephen Ames shot a final round 71 to finish the tournament T-38 at 287.
