WGC-EMC World Cup

Spending a week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with my family and some friends was a lot of fun. This was my first trip to this part of Mexico and it sure is a beautiful part of the world. We had plenty of support from Canadians cheering us on. I am a little disappointed in our 8th place finish in the World Cup after opening with a 13-under 59 and a pretty solid round of 67 in alternate shot format on Friday. We just could not seem to get the putts to fall the last two days. The positives that came out of the week were that I was able to test some of the things that I have been working on with my coach under tournament conditions. My driving accuracy was not quite what I need it to be in 2002 (66%) and Mike Wilson and I have worked on a few changes this off-season. I would like to see my driving accuracy around 75-77% in 2003. This week at Vista Vallarta I only missed two fairways with the driver. That is a good sign for next year. I always enjoy competing for Canada in an International event and hope someday to bring the World Cup back to Canada.

World Cup Scores

The Japanese team of Shigeki Maruyama and Toshi Izawa won the World Golf Championships EMC-World Cup by two shots over the American team of Phil Mickelson and David Toms. Japan shot a final-round, 6-under 66 and finished the event at 36 under par. The United States finished at 34 under, including a final-round 65. Mike and Ian Leggatt fired a final round one-under-par 71 to finish in a two-way tie for eighth spot at 27 under par.
