The HSBC World Match Play Championship is a challenging competition that matches sixteen of the world’s best golfers against each other. In Match Play the game is played by holes as opposed to stroke or medal play which is the aggregate of the strokes played over 18 holes. In a match where one player is playing another, a hole is won by the player who holes out in the fewer strokes. If the two players hole out in the same number of strokes the hole is halved. The match is won when a player leads by a greater number of holes than there are left to be played.
